ASSESSMENT OF COASTAL DAMAGE FOR THE COOLING WATER INTAKE STRUCTURE OF A COAL-FIRED POWER PLANT

Last October 2020, a strong tropical cyclone with international name Molave (local name: Quinta) caused widespread damage to agricultural and infrastructure sectors in the Philippines. Among those affected is coalfired power plant located within vicinity of Tayabas Bay. The velocity cap at head cooling water intake structure was found washed ashore morning 26, 2020 (PH time) after onslaught Typhoon Molave. Underwater site investigations post-typhoon revealed that walls other components were damaged as well. initially built seabed depths 9m below Mean Tide Level (MTL), while topped 6m MTL. This paper presents forensic analysis coastal assessment methodology carried out identify nearshore hydrodynamic conditions during passage potentially critical typhoons throughout useful life (2017 2020).
